The
Architect, Douglas Cutler, knew that the existing two-story,
4,250 square foot house (pictured below) had the mass and
form to be a grander home, more in keeping with the rich architectural
styling prominent in the Greenwich, CT area, but lacked a
sophisticated curb appeal.
Applying
his 30 years of experience, Cutler realized the house was
a 1970’s builder style home lacking a defined architectural
style. He decided to enhance the facade, extend the garage,
and add a sunroom and a porch on the rear of the house. A
new partial second story provided two additional bedrooms
and two baths. Approximately 1,500 square feet of new construction
and living space was added to the original home.
When asked
to describe his design concept, Cutler stated, "I tried
to maximize the visual appeal of the home by concentrating
on the front portico entry. The massive Greek revival entry
defines the architectural style and sets the tone for the
remainder of the building. Alignment of the windows and the
attention to detailing of the front facade architraves completed
my design concept for this project. This renovation project
has more than doubled the value of this home".
