| The
Merrywood Designer Show House was
held in Greenwich, CT to benefit the Greenwich
Family Y's capital campaign for the expansion and upgrading
of the YMCA building, a cherished Greenwich Landmark. Over
thirty regional designers decorated the 20,000 square foot
mansion in grand fashion for this public showcase.
The magnificent
stone house totaled over 20,000 square feet with more than
twenty beautifully designed rooms. Designers and tradesmen
from the tri-state area were involved in turning the empty
mansion into a furnished Show House--but
the transformation didn't stop inside. Merrywood
sits on nearly 3 acres and is accented by a carriage house,
studio, stone terraces, waterfalls and a pool.
“Merrywood”
was more
than just a Show House; it’s one of the locations
for an interior design reality program. Participating Show
House designers will take part in “The
Room of Choice” a
TV series-in-progress produced by Talent Resource Centre.
Franco Grimaldi serves as organizer of “Merrywood”
and executive producer of the series. “It’s
theater,” says Grimaldi, who has organized elegant Show
Houses in several states. “You start from nothing and
you work, work, work until opening night.”
You don’t
have to look hard to find “reality”
shows on TV that are more scripted than candid, but
Grimaldi promises that “Room
of Choice” will
give viewers an authentic look at the creative process and
all the work that goes into a Show House.
Once “The
Room of Choice” airs,
Grimaldi says that viewers will choose the “best”
designer by casting their ballots for their favorite
room. Grimaldi says his reality series will show the
“dilemmas, trials and tribulations” that
go into making a Show House come
to life. |
