— The Greenwich Family YMCA has partnered with Talent Resource Centre, LLC, a television and film production company that is presently working on a new and innovative television series called 'The Room of Choice'.

The Merrywood designers will get to be part of this program, which will demonstrate every aspect of what interior designers do best in a realistic and encompassing manner.

“The Room of Choice”© will be about the trials and tribulations surrounding the creation of a “Designer Show House". There will be a dramatic aspect as well, since several designers will participate in the unique format of a competition amongst themselves.

Each designer will be assigned a space in a private residence which they will then renovate and transform to a glorious result. Upon completion of the project, the viewing audience will send in their individual votes selecting the designer and room they most prefer, hence the title: “The Room of Choice”©.

The entire design process will be documented, from conception to fruition. All the encompassing factors involved in this monumental venture will be included, starting with the many hours spent determining the design and style of the room itself.

Next, the designers will present a finished storyboard for approval. Alternatives and/or compromises are discussed, and the design is finalized. Then, by visiting various showrooms, manufacturers and suppliers, the designers carefully accumulate their wares.

Finally, a comprehensive schedule is established, followed by the actual work.

Here, viewers will witness exactly what it is that all of the various workers and artisans actually do. Sometimes there is some demolition that needs to be performed before construction can begin. Then, all of the trades come into play; flooring, whether carpet, hardwood or tile; wall coverings, which could be paint, fabric or wallpaper; and ceiling finishes. Then, there is the installation of all the lighting fixtures, be they chandeliers or sconces. Finally, the room is ready to be furnished and styled. Window treatments are completed and furnishings are arranged. Lastly comes the magic that only skilled designers can perform, the all-important accessorizing. Here is where the unique style and personality of the individual designers is most expressed through their choices of artwork, floral arrangements, and objets trouves. These can include but are certainly not limited to musical instruments, fine books, throws and pillows, and all manner of decorative items.

The series will present to its viewers a wide variety of information. All aspects and procedures of home improvement will be covered, demonstrating to all who watch the various talents involved. The creativity and unique abilities of the practitioners of those talents will be shown in a manner that will be both entertaining and educational.
