| Sooo-z
Mastropietro realized her artistic fate as a young girl
growing up in Hopewell Jct, NY. Her creative outlets
began in the basement of her parents’ home where
she would design and sew clothing or reinvent hand-me-downs.
Some years later, a BFA in Fashion Design and Textile
Design paved her way for other artistic pursuits.
After
graduation, Sooo-z worked as an art director and custom
designer in the home furnishings industry for a high-end
felted art rug company in NYC. Upon leaving there, she
began her own business, Mastropiece.
Mastropiece
was an outlet for a combination of different interests
which culminated into a silk-painting business. From
1997-2000 Sooo-z created a collection of unique hand
painted silk clothing and accessories and sold them
at high-end craft shows. During the time of the craft
show circuit, she discovered an unearthed talent while
in her new studio apartment, painting murals.
Murals
were a perfect way to transform an interior space and
invent a special environment. This quickly became a
desired commodity amongst friends and new clients. Painted
furniture also found its way into the repertoire as
a practical companion.
Upon
moving to Stamford with her new husband Micah in 2000,
Sooo-z was selected to paint her rendition of “Le
Bovine -Opera Cow” for the Stamford Cow Parade.
In 2001, she painted two life-size cars for the Stamford
Car Parade which featured “Carden of Eden”
and “Cinderella’s Chariot”. These
creations were all done in her living room.
From
the time they moved in 2000, Sooo-z began painting murals
in their Victorian home with themes inspired from trips
to Italy, music, food, and an enchanted forest. They
took a few years to complete with other jobs on the
side and two children in the interim. She then became
involved with other community projects as a way to incorporate
artistic beauty with the surrounding area. This included
painting the traffic signal boxes near her home in 2003
as well as many gardening projects in conjunction with
the Shippan Point Garden Club of which she is still
a member. Since they have relocated, Sooo-z now has
a new ongoing project of bare walls to mural. |
